The Wink

Me holding my heart real tight
Trying not to look hard
but wanting to see what has happened
Him lying in a tub of blood
some more coming out of his mouth
He is smiling
I silently say
'Are you ok?'
'Are you ok?'
He winks and smiles
He is talking
& jovial
as he is being wheeled away
into the ambulance
He has survived last night
